1st-pay-laundryQ: When was the First Launderette or Laundromat  Opened?

A: April 18, 1934, J.F. Cantrell’s Washateria opened in Ft. Worth, Texas. It featured four electric washers that charged by the hour.

May 9, 1949, Bendix Home Appliances in London featured the first self-service, coin-operated washers. Bendix was the first vendor to offer automated washing machines for public use, earning it the distinction of being the first ‘Laundromat’.
