MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, ST. PETERSBURG

The Art of Golf is the first major museum exhibition in the United States devoted to this popular game. Organized by the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and the National Galleries of Scotland, this exhibition spans four centuries of golf and features approximately 90 works by artists such as Rembrandt, Bellows, Rockwell, Warhol and the celebrated photographer Edgerton. This show brings together rare and remarkable works of art to celebrate what Bobby Jones called “a game of considerable passion.” We will enjoy lunch at the exclusive Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club. Price is $67 for members, $75 for yet-to-be members.

Feb. 14 and 20, 2013

THE ART OF THE HORSE, TAMPA

Arthur Appleton gave us his fabulous art collection, and one of his other passions was horses. We are going to enjoy his equestrian interest as we travel to Tampa Bay Downs. We have had many requests to repeat this trip, as we had a fun time in 2010. We will have a private, glass enclosed party suite overlooking the finish line, a custom buffet, special outside seating and a racing program. One of our members is an expert in the “art of betting” and he will give us a tutorial en route to the races. Price is $60 for members, $70 for yet-to-be members.

March 21 and 27, 2013

CUMMER MUSEUM OF ART AND GARDENS, JACKSONVILLE

The Cummer Museum is located on the St. Johns River. Clara Cummer was an avid gardener creating Italian and English gardens and during March the museum will celebrate Garden Month. We will have a docent-led tour of the gardens and a lunch in a private dining room. In the afternoon we will view The Tsars’ Cabinet. This exhibition showcases 200 years of decorative arts created under the Romanovs, from the time of Peter the Great in the early 18th century to that of Nicholas II in the early 20th century. The 230-piece show dazzles with porcelain, glass, enamel, silver gilt and other alluring materials. Price is $70 for members, $80 for yet-to-be members.
